Cascading failures in anisotropic interdependent networks of spatial modular structures

چکیده
The structure of real-world multilayer infrastructure systems usually exhibits anisotropy due to constraints the embedding space. For example, geographical features like mountains, rivers and shores influence architecture critical networks. Moreover, such spatial networks are often non-homogeneous but rather have a modular with dense connections within communities sparse between neighboring communities. When different layers interdependent, local failures attacks may propagate throughout system. Here we study robustness interdependent which both anisotropic heterogeneous. We also evaluate effect localized having geometrical shapes. find that more robust against attacks, surprisingly, even on isotropic structures, effective than attacks.

On the Dynamics of Cascading Failures in Interdependent Networks
Cascading failures in interdependent networks have been investigated using percolation theory in recent years. Here, we study the dynamics of the cascading failures, the average and fluctuations of the number of cascading as a function of system size N near criticality. The system we analyzed is a pair of fully interdependent Erdös-Rényi (ER) networks. We show that when p is close to pc, the wh...
متن کاملCascading failures in interdependent networks with finite functional components.
We present a cascading failure model of two interdependent networks in which functional nodes belong to components of size greater than or equal to s. We find theoretically and via simulation that in complex networks with random dependency links the transition is first order for s≥3 and continuous for s=2. We also study interdependent lattices with a distance constraint r in the dependency link...
متن کاملCascading failures in interdependent systems under a flow redistribution model.
Robustness and cascading failures in interdependent systems has been an active research field in the past decade. However, most existing works use percolation-based models where only the largest component of each network remains functional throughout the cascade. Although suitable for communication networks, this assumption fails to capture the dependencies in systems carrying a flow (e.g., pow...
متن کاملCascading Failures in Interdependent Lattice Networks: The Critical Role of the Length of Dependency Links
We study the cascading failures in a system composed of two interdependent square lattice networks A and B placed on the same Cartesian plane, where each node in network A depends on a node in network B randomly chosen within a certain distance r from the corresponding node in network A and vice versa. Our results suggest that percolation for small r below r(max)≈8 (lattice units) is a second-o...
